Who we are
United Teaching is the initial teacher training programme for United Learning. United Learning includes a significant amount of both public and private schools in its network across the UK and aims to provide excellent education to children and young people across the country. United Learning make it a priority to provide teachers with excellent professional support and development, so that every child receives an excellent experience. It's in one of these schools that you will be developing, teaching and making a difference once you are accepted onto the programme.
United Teaching is a scheme tailored to you to make sure you become the best teacher you can possibly be.
Chemistry Trainee, Paddington Academy, London
When you train to teach with us, you are placed in a main placement school for the majority of the training year and the learning is hands on. This means you can develop strong relationships with children and colleagues as you work towards achieving your teaching qualification.
You can choose to train for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) on its own, or you can go for a PGCE as well, earning 60 Masters-level credits along the way.Alongside your time in your main placement school, trainees spend at least three weeks completing a second school placement in a contrasting school.
This provides all trainees with the opportunity to fully experience a different school setting and learn from additional subject and teaching experts.
What we offer
Your first taste of our teacher training programme starts with one week summer institute in July. This helps you to prepare for your September start in your main placement school through introducing you to key ideas around teaching and learning, behaviour, safeguarding and curriculum. There are also two induction days either side of the summer institute to give you time in your main placement school to observe lessons, meet students and spend time with colleagues. Your training year will be spent in your host school, and we have weekly training every Friday afternoon.
You are fully supported by your school and time is set aside for you to be able to complete PGCE assignments.
MFL Trainee, Sheffield Springs Academy
Assessment is a continuous process through weekly observations, meetings and termly review points. At the end of the year, all trainees are assessed against the Teachers' Standards. If you choose to also complete the PGCE, this consists of two academic assignments, assessed by our university partner Goldsmiths, University of London.
If you stay with United Learning after your training year, you will progress onto the ECF (Early Career Framework) programme which is a structured programme of support and mentoring, in partnership with Ambition Institute. During your induction period as an ECT, you will continue to receive training, mentoring and professional development opportunities.
